Transportation Engineer - Entry Level Roadway

Position Information

DGL is looking for an Entry-level new graduate engineer with a Bachelor's degree, E.I. certification. At the beginning level of engineering work, uses prescribed methods, standard techniques and practices to perform beginning level engineering assignments under the guidance of experienced engineers. Typically possesses 0-2 years’ experience.

  • Will work under the supervision of the roadway department.

  • Full-time, Exempt

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist with the preparation of roadway construction documents.

  • Candidate must be familiar with the design requirements provided within the Ohio Department of Transportation Location and Design Manuals.

  • Routine tasks may include pavement design, drainage design such as gutter spread, open and closed drainage systems, BMP design, roadway horizontal and vertical design, quantity and construction cost determination.

  • There may be occasions where field survey and/ or construction inspection may be requested to assist with scheduling and project workload needs.

Skill Set

  • Microsoft Office, MicroStation (current ODOT L&D CAD tools) and ability to use AutoCAD as a secondary cad drafting and design skill

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to work and balance priorities among multiple projects

  • Outgoing, self-motivated team player

  • Experience with applicable computer software such as Microsoft Office and Excel

  • Proven success in delivering high quality project submittals

  • Professional demeanor

  • Valid Driver’s License required with a favorable driver’s record

  • Overtime hours may also be requested dependent on project workloads and submittal deadlines

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering

  • Engineering Intern (E.I.) certification and Ohio Professional Engineering license preferred or the ability to obtain license within 6 months.
