Structural/Bridge Engineer

Position Information

DGL is looking for a well-rounded civil engineer to enhance the qualifications of our rapidly expanding Site Development-Structural/Transportation-Bridge Divisions. As a multi-disciplinary engineering and survey firm, success in this position will require the ability to coordinate all aspects of a project beyond the traditional civil discipline.

  • Reports to Director of Facility/Site Development

  • Full-time, Exempt

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the structural design and detailing of buildings, foundations, bridges and culverts

  • Perform engineering calculations and reports

  • Complete bridge safety and scoping inspections and load rating analysis of bridges

  • Manage smaller projects and assist with project management activities on larger projects

  • Coordinate and communicate with clients to determine project scope

  • Oversees daily management of projects

  • Coordinate with other engineers and architects on project requirements

  • Supervise and mentor designers for drawing and report production

  • Prepare drawings and specifications in accordance with project requirements

  • Provide quality control and design checking of project drawings and specifications

  • Review shop drawings, RFIs and respond to other construction questions

Skill Set

  • Experience with applicable computer software such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, Revit, Structural Analysis Software such as RAM, LEAP Bridge, AASHTOWare BrR, etc.

  • Knowledge of engineering design tools and software

  • Must be well organized with the ability to multitask while delivering high quality projects

  • Able to work on various sized projects

  • Professional demeanor

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all types of people – strong written and verbal skills

  • Valid Driver’s License or State ID required

  • Some tasks may require travel. Time and mileage would be reimbursed (mileage at current Ohio Department of Transportation rates) based on current reimbursement policies.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution with 4-8 years of civil/site experience

  • Experience in design of public, commercial, institutional and/or industrial projects with qualifications and experience as a Bridge Inspection Team Leader in Ohio is a plus

  • Engineering Intern (E.I.) Certification or Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration in Ohio or the ability to obtain Ohio Registration in 6 months
