Let Us Introduce You to Our Newest Employee
/DGL Consulting Engineers, LLC is excited to announce that Barbara Jones has joined the firm. A former 20-year employee of the City of Toledo’s Division of Transportation, Barb brings to DGL 30 years of experience in managing, designing, operating and maintaining the signal system of more than 500 intersections in Toledo. Barb received her Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from The University of Toledo in 1982. She is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Ohio and a member of both the Institute of Transportation Engineers and the International Municipal Signal Association. Barb also served as a panel member on the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) panel for Automated Enforcement for Speeding and Red Light Running. She is a former Board Member and Executive Committee Member with the Safety Council of Northwest Ohio.
Barb is experienced using traffic control analysis software, but also has a great appreciation for field analysis, considering this the first line analytical tool and the follow-up measure for results. She has extensive experience in traffic signal controller programming, developing and modifying programs for each of Toledo’s signals using NTCIP and vendor-specific software for Siemens/Eagle and Econolite controllers. Her experience in budget control and management includes the successful completion of capital projects, as well as operating and maintaining a signal system within budget. The conversion of Toledo’s signals to LED units has resulted in significant cost savings in both electrical and maintenance costs.
Barb enjoys working directly with signal maintenance staff. “Their challenges often reveal valuable information toward improving operations and maintenance and reducing costs,” she states. Her experience also includes converting 1-way streets to 2-way streets; analyzing and modifying arterial systems; investigating and implementing emerging technologies; inventory management and developing dedicated programs related to improving safety and reducing maintenance costs associated with traffic control devices.
Barb is an excellent addition to our staff and her expertise strengthens and expands the traffic engineering services we provide. In addition, Barb has been on the ‘client side’ of the table for the past 20 years, so she brings to our projects an in-depth understanding of the challenges and goals that municipalities undertake.
Raised on a farm outside of Helena, Ohio, Barb has lived in Perrysburg Township for the past 21 years. She has two sons, Tyler and Travis, and when not at work, Barb enjoys such activities as grilling out, gardening, golfing, tennis, reading, and attending family sporting events.
