Ron Guiliani: Passing the Mantle
/Since joining DGL, Ron has helped to expand our facility and site development department and mentor those rising up to continue on with the department and firm’s success.
Ron grew up as a “U-per”, in the small city of Iron Mountain, Michigan. Remaining up North for college, he attended Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan where it snowed starting in September and often continued into May. Ron earned a Bachelor of Science in Structural Engineering in 1989 and decided to head “South” to Ohio when he joined SSOE. During his 25+ years at SSOE, Ron became a Professional Engineer in multiple states as well as a Project Management Professional. Moving up the ranks, Ron worked as the Vice President & Division Manager of automotive projects, became a Senior Vice President & General Manager of the Facilities Strategic Business Unit and ultimately served on the SSOE Board of Directors.
On January 1, 2016 Ron joined DGL Consulting Engineers as the leader of the Facility and Site Development Group. In 2019, he joined DGL’s Ownership Group along with RJ Lumbrezer, Josh O’Neil and Bob Bailey. Since joining DGL, he has continued to help grow our client list and diversify the firm’s private project types. One example of Ron’s mentoring at DGL is Kyle Layton who joined the firm in 2014 and is now one of the 4 new partners to join DGL’s Ownership Group in 2023.
Ron’s experience includes having worked with many notable clients including Abbott Laboratories, BMW Manufacturing Company, Dana Corporation, Ford Motor Company, Honda, and USG Corporation. He has managed projects on three continents and it wasn’t until he joined DGL that Ron had the opportunity to manage a local project in Toledo and he discovered a love for giving back to the community which had given him so much over the years.
In retirement, Ron plans to play some of his bucket list golf courses, finish some of his woodworking projects, and catch-up on the ever growing list of “honey-do’s” at home. We expect Ron’s next chapter to be as bountiful as the last 36 years. Thank You Ron for everything you have done to help make DGL what it is today!
After a much needed vacation, Ron will perform as a consultant to DGL and ensure the projects that he has been involved with will continue through to a smooth completion.
Joshua O’Neil, PE, CPESC, Principal | Senior Project Manager and Kyle Layton, PE, Principal | Project Manager are both excited for Ron and have each offered their thoughts below.
Josh: Ron was truly instrumental in the expansion of services that DGL offers. His wealth of diverse experience was extremely valuable to all of us, whether that was technical assistance during design, project management advice, or business operation guidance during collaboration efforts with his fellow partners. Ron’s time here at DGL was not as long as others, but that does not mean the impact he had or the impression he leaves behind is any less appreciated. Thank you, Ron, for all your contributions to DGL!
Kyle: I have been extremely fortunate to have worked closely with Ron throughout my tenure as a Professional Engineer. Many engineers develop significant technical knowledge and experience throughout their careers. Far fewer of those engineers develop the ability to effectively transfer that expertise to the next generation through teaching and guidance. Even fewer yet do all of this and still develop high level project management and business acumen. I can tell you with certainty that Ron is the latter.
