Rick McGuckin: Passing the Baton

He’s not riding off into the sunset quite yet, but with recent ownership changes at DGL we felt compelled to recognize Rick’s dedication, hard work, and eagerness to maintain The DGL Difference for the last 38 Years. In July 2023, Richard J. McGuckin, PE, CPESC chose to pass his baton as a partner in the firm to a new generation of Principals.

Rick joined DGL in 1985 and became a partner in 1999; he has served as the Director of Transportation and will continue in this role as he still has more knowledge to impart to rising staff at DGL. Rick’s design experience has included complex geometrics, innovative interchanges, urban and rural roadways, highway and heavy-duty pavement designs, roundabouts, open and closed drainage systems, culvert replacements, erosion control and BMP design, maintenance of traffic, utilities, sidewalks, multi-use paths and ADA ramps just to name a few. His experience and effective management, communication and interpersonal skills have assisted in his ability to consistently provide a product beyond our clients’ expectations. If you live in Northwest Ohio, the odds are that Rick has helped you get from point A to point B, safely and efficiently, many times over; if not on a daily basis.

Even though he is no longer a partner in the firm, we know his passion for the engineering industry will be just one of the legacies to be told for years to come. We expect Rick’s next chapter to be as bountiful as the last 38 years, thank you Rick for everything you have done to help make DGL what it is today!

Ahmed Hamid, PE, Partner and Director of Technical Services and Scot Morehouse, PE, Partner | Director of Structural (Transportation) are both excited for what’s to come. Here’s what they have to say.

Ahmed: Rick has been an exemplary mentor and visionary leader that helped put DGL where we are now. He has a unique mentorship quality that has developed current and upcoming strong leaders. He works hard, plays hard while at the same time he is direct (no sugar coating), honest, provides great guidance and will always support you. We are grateful for having such a great role model that we all look up to. Thank you Rick!

Scot: Rick has been an industry leader in Northwest Ohio during his tenure at DGL. He has also been a key part of developing the culture at DGL that has resulted in the “family” atmosphere we all enjoy. Beyond that he has been a good friend for the 38 years we have worked at DGL.
